Palm House was built in years of 1911-1994, in the surrounding area of the castle Ksiaz, from the the command of Duke of Pless and John Henry Książ XV von Pless, heirs to a fortune of Hochberg (owner of one of the largest estates in Europe at that time. Surface of 1900 square meters, in addition to the palm house, included also areas of greenhouse, Japanese-style garden, fruit-vegetable garden, the area for cultivating shrubs and beloved by wife of the Duke - Mary Theresa Cornwallis-West known as Daisy, rosarium, in which e.g.: roses with snow-white petals were cultivated. 15-meter glass building where date palms were planted was determined as a central object. The viewing gallery was created on the roof of palm house, from which you could admire the panoramic views. Most remarkable, however, is the building blocks of palm house - walls for creepers and tunnels forming a charming alleys were built of porous tufa, brought straight from the slopes of the sicilian Mount Etna.
Thanks to palm house, princely pair had a year-round supply of fresh armful of flowers and exotic fruits and vegetables for the princely table.
Currently Wałbrzych Palm House has about 80 species of plants from all over the world. You can see here for example: Dracena, spiny spurge, prickly pear, banana and coffee trees and lemon and tangerines. Unfortunately, wonderful Rosarium, from which Wałbrzych could be famous did not survive. It is interesting, however that rose with pure white petals under the name of Daisy can still be found in the world catalogs of flowers.
